Last night’s guest and advice giver on the show was singer Gwen Stefani, who had the contestants perform some songs from her favorite artists that inspired her, or go with some of her own music. I personally have never been a big Gwen Stefani (or No Doubt) fan, so I thought they could have actually done better with chosen a musically inclined performer rather than someone who goes from a rock artist, to poppy radio hits with rappers. Don’t get me wrong, I like all kinds of music, even pop, but I always found it hard to enjoy artists who change their whole sound and style.
But, with that being said, most of the performances last night were decent besides Chris Sligh’s rendition of The Police “Everything She Does is Magic”. I thought that the beat was way out in front of his singing, and he had trouble catching up to it for a steady flow. Even though he was the weakest in my mind last night, and everyone else has a stronger performance, I can’t see him getting voted off yet, unless America starts voting by best performers from that night. If that was the case, Sabrina would still be here and Haley would be sitting in the crowd next to some 10 year old that cries to dam much.
Now for my final discussion, Melinda Doolittle. Call me whatever you’d like, but I am NOT a Melinda fan. I cannot argue the fact that she has a great voice, but she shows NO personality whatsoever on stage, after the song. She just stands there and looks surprised every time, like you liked it really?? I understand she might be a very humble person, but personality is what you need to be an American Idol. Not just stand there like a rock on the stage and say “O thank you so much”. She just annoys me. I do not know how she can keep on advancing every week by just her voice along, I think she has to come out of her shell and impress people with something other than her voice.
